Aaaghhh!
I am so sick of my job!!!
"What is Alienation?"
Karl Marx felt that human beings have a need to be creative. When people are expected to work in mindless jobs for low pay, it is no wonder they begin to feel irritable, and/or depressed or angry. True, we are all usually just happy to have our jobs, and that, too, is part of this feeling called, "alienation."

The best definition of alienation I have read is the one below. I have it handwritten in my notes and I'm not sure what I copied it from. If anyone recognizes this definition, please let me know.

Alienation - Extreme separation from one's own nature, from the products of one's labor, or from social reality, which often results in an indifference or outright aversion toward some aspect of life that might otherwise be attractive or significant.

Two movies to watch...

"The Corporation" - A fast-paced documentary that explains the changes that have been made in the last few decades that allow corporations to get away with the things they get away with. It is definitely part of the beginner's lesson in how corporations have become accepted as people in a court of law.

The other movie is the true story titled, "Battle in Seattle." It is about how activists brought attention to the corporations' theme of putting profit before people.
We have so much to talk about!
My story is how my biography intersects with the time in history that I live.
"I know I'm not the only one. I know there are thousands of people like me struggling more than they should have to because 1. we are kept silent by social stigma; 2. we are too busy working to survive to work for our beliefs; 3. we are working against systems that are kept in place by those with the power and the resources." I need time to "think my own thoughts."
What do you mean a corporation is a person? That just doesn't make sense.

I know I'm not the only one. I know there are thousands of people like me struggling more than they should have to because...
1. We are kept silent by social stigma;
2. We are too busy working to survive to work for our beliefs
3. We are working against systems that are kept in place by those with the power and the resources.
Your story is how your biography intersects with the time in history that you live.
Together we document living at this time in history. We recognize the systems are the problem and we work together to find solutions.
Alienation is that feeling you get when you work so hard every day with no end in sight. The feeling people feel when they are working in a luxurious place serving rich guests expensive meals. It's more than just a "one moment" picture. If you look at that person's life you see a lot of heartache... not to mention the physical aches and pains.
The heartache is not because of envy. The heartache comes from not being able to buy their children the things they need. The pain they feel is more intense when holidays come around and they are not able to give like they want to.
Almost anyone could go through rough times and look back on the experience as lessons learned. The real challenge is the people who are never able to work their way out of the struggle.

Karl Marx was moved by working conditions during his time living in history. Karl Marx lived from 1818 until 1883. Many people would be surprised to read about why he wrote about the things he did. One of the reasons is that he understood that there were wealthy men in power who knew exactly what they were doing when they exploited their fellow human beings. It wasn't an accident. It wasn't just the way it turned out. It was, in many cases, premeditated. Read more about Karl Marx.
